Mobility Problems

Reduced mobility is a common problem faced by elderly patients as well as patients with chronic pain and/or disability following trauma or injury.  With our population rapidly aging, ensuring optimal function and safety for everyone is an expanding area of care.

Many falls are caused by poor balance and/or declining muscle strength and joint flexibility.  Unfortunately, fractures, particularly hip (neck of femur) and wrist fractures, are an all-too-common consequence of falls.  Resultant reduction in mobility can have a significant impact on the patient's independence and ability to perform everyday tasks.

Physiotherapy can offer help with mobility problems in the following areas:

  • Balance Assessment and Treatment
  • Falls Prevention
  • Exercise programmes to increase walking ability, muscle strength and fitness, and ability to perform everyday tasks.
  • Treatment of deficits associated with Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions.
  • Prescription of walking aids and other functional aids, wheelchairs etc.
